Northeast of Phuket, are rated amongst the World's top dive
destinations. The name comes from the number 9 in Malay, hence
there are 9 Islands all surrounded by coral gardens, staggering
underwater rock formations, swim-throughs and plateaus. There is an
abundance of tropical marine life including Reef Sharks, Nurse
Sharks, Sea Turtles and Sea snakes, Hard and Soft corals to suit the
most enthusiastic underwater naturalist along with fabulous
year-round visibility. A variety of trips are available, from day trips to
2,3,4 or 6 day liveaboards, so even with a busy holiday schedule, a trip
to the Similan Islands is a must for every keen diver.
A full 4 day /4 night liveaboard will also take in the Surin Islands and
the stunning diving at Richelieu Rock, Koh Tachai and Koh Bon.
Amongst these dive sites Manta Rays are a regular feature along with
the possibilty of diving with Whale Sharks at Richelieu Rock.
To the south of Phuket, Hin Daeng and Hin Muang offer excellent diving
and a good chance to see Manta Rays and the occasional Whale
Shark. Profusions of soft corals provide swathes of colour,
predominately red on Hin Daeng and purple on Hin Muang.
